The domestic equity market was trading higher in the afternoon session today. Sensex gained 28 points to 73,539 and Nifty rose 33 pts to 22,336.
VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services said," The pressure on the market now is due to the uncertainty regarding the election outcome. There is lots of speculation in the media regarding this and this has added to the uncertainty in the market. The India VIX spiking 72% from the April lows indicates that high volatility will persist for some more time. It is important to understand that VIX is based on Nifty index options prices. The spike in VIX is due to rising volume of options trades. Many investors are buying put options to protect their portfolio in case of an unexpected election outcome."
Shares of RailTel climbed 3% to Rs 375.90 on BSE in the afternoon session. Market cap of the PSU rose to Rs 11,999 crore. Total 1.12 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 4.14 crore.
Shares of NBCC gained 6.77% to Rs 137.20 today. Market cap of the civil construction firm rose to Rs 24,570 crore. Total 7.65 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 10.26 crore.
Sonata Software fell 14% in early deals post Q4 earnings. The IT stock slipped 13.80% to Rs 549.30 against the previous close of Rs 637.40. Total 0.24 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 1.65 crore on BSE. Market cap of the firm slipped to Rs 15,815 crore on BSE.
Shares of Voltas fell 9% to Rs 1261 in early deals after the firm announced its Q4 earnings. Market cap of the firm declined to Rs 43,426 crore. Total 1.77 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 22.97 crore. Net profit fell 19% to Rs 116 crore in the March 2024 quarter.
NHPC shares rose over 2% to Rs 99.40 against the previous close of Rs 97.14. Market cap of the firm rose to Rs 99,646 crore. Total 66.48 lakh shares of NHPC changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 65.04 crore.
REC shares gained 6.5% to Rs 539.75 against the previous close of Rs 506.80. Market cap of the firm climbed to Rs 1.41 lakh crore. Total 13.96 lakh shares of REC changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 74.09 crore.
Shares of Vodafone Idea surged 3.15% to Rs 12.77 on BSE. Market capitalisation of the the telco surged to Rs 84,168 crore. Total 2572.71 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to a high turnover of Rs 317.69 crore.
