Romania - Factors to watch on May 23

BUCHAREST, May 23 (Reuters) - Here are news stories, press reports and events to watch which may affect Romanian financial markets on Wednesday.

INFRASTRUCTURE PLANS

Romania's government aims to prioritize building 759 kilometres of motorway through public-private partnerships in the European Union's least-developped state, deputy prime minister Viorel Stefan said on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, centrist President Klaus Iohannis expressed concern at the slow pace at which the government was tapping EU development funds. Of the 31.3 billion euros Brussels has allotted for Romania during 2014-2020, Bucharest has tapped only 4.9 billion euros, he said.

CEE MARKETS

The forint gave up almost all of its early gains on Tuesday against the euro, edging back towards 23-month lows as dollar bulls returned in global markets and Hungary's central bank (NBH) reaffirmed its loose policy line.

ACQUITTAL

A Romanian court acquitted former prime minister and current Senate speaker Calin Tariceanu on Tuesday of charges of giving false testimony to assist suspects in a wider real estate corruption case. The ruling is preliminary and can be appealed.

ELECTRICITY PRICES

Electricity prices for household consumers could fall by 3.5 percent from July because of a new pricing methodology, energy regulator ANRE said on Tuesday. Ziarul Financiar
