Free webinars aim to protect kupuna from fraud
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - AARP Hawaii is launching a series of fraud webinars to help kupuna protect themselves from scams.
The webinars will cover:
- Fraud that targets kupuna.
- An in-depth look at how scammers take advantage of consumers.
- Tips about digital scams, including scams involving artificial intelligence.
- How to recognize and report Medicare fraud.
This comes on the heels of a new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book 2024 report that shows local consumers lost over $61 million last year to identity theft, imposters, and credit schemes.
Senior citizens are most often the target of fraud, AARP Hawaii said.
“Kupuna work hard all their lives to save money,” said Kealii Lopez, AARP Hawaii state director. “AARP wants to do its part to help kupuna keep their money. That’s why we hold webinars and in-person events to fight fraud.”
The schedule is:
- FBI Spotlight on Scams: Tuesday, April 8, at 1 p.m.
- Anatomy of a Scam: Tuesday, April 15, at 10 a.m.
- Stay Safe in a Digital World: Wednesday, April 23, at 10 a.m.
- Spot and Report Medicare Fraud: Wednesday, April 30, at 10 a.m.
