PDA and FDA to Host Conference on Ensuring the Integrity of Pharmaceutical Ingredient Supply Chain

Bethesda, Md. (August 5, 2008): The Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) announced today that together with the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA), it will host the PDA/FDA Pharmaceutical Ingredient Supply Chain Conference in Washington, D.C., September 10-12, 2008. The program is being developed jointly with FDA and will provide information on guidance and regulations from around the world, including North America, Europe and Asia. Presenters from the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Pharmacopeia (USP), FDA, the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration (SHFDA) as well as industry experts, will share their perspectives and solutions during eight sessions.

"We are pleased to work with FDA to offer this timely conference," said Robert Myers, PDA President. "As the pharmaceutical industry continues to globalize, ensuring the quality and safety of products to the patient has become increasingly more challenging. This conference will help to that end by addressing global initiatives to assure the integrity of the pharmaceutical ingredient supply chain."

Session topics will cover: challenges in ensuring the quality and integrity of pharmaceutical ingredients; regulations and guidance on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Distribution Practices (GDPs); the role of quality systems in supply chain operations; industry practices; and opportunities for global cooperation, collaboration and harmonization.
