Joker Is Coming To Digital, DVD And Blu-ray Just In Time For The Holidays

The dance of freedom. The death bells. The rising of the joker. What some have called one of the most magnificent, sublime, monumental and extraordinary films of 2019 is coming home for the holidays. That’s right, starting on December 17, you’ll be able to relive director Todd Phillips’ vision of Joker in the privacy of your own home, as the film will hit Digital HD on that day.

You think we're joking? Afraid not, friends. Check out the official announcement below:

Now if you’re a physical media aficionado, you’ll need to wait a little longer for Joker to play a command performance in your living room. The 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD copies of Warner Bros’ history making hit won’t be on shelves until January 7, which falls in the territory of some other religiously observed holidays, like Three Kings Day or Epiphany.

Sadly, there’s no concrete word on what special features will accompany Joker when it starts to hit home video markets in December. However, that won’t stop fans and curious newcomers alike from snapping up copies as it dances onto the scene. Because if there’s anything that this movie has been able to do, it’s draw a massive crowd wherever it may go.

What’ll be interesting to see is how many more opinions arise from viewing Joaquin Phoenix’s journey as Arthur Fleck for the first time, or upon repeated viewings, once Joker is out in the wild as Twitter has alerted the world. With talk of several commentary tracks being available for the home release, more details will obviously be brought to light that we may not have previously known about. We’ve certainly seen that addressed in follow-up interviews during the movie’s theatrical release, so the public’s current understanding of Joker might just be the tip of the iceberg.

As the $1 billion+ worldwide haul of DC Comics’ latest film has proven, you don’t need to have a huge budget or even a PG-13 rating to make a smash hit. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of makeup, a killer smile and some dance moves to bring the house down. Just ask the droves of fans who have had their pictures taken on what are now known as “the Joker stairs,” as well as the legion of Twitter denizens who have circulated posts like the one that inspired the opening to this very story, shown below:

Joker is ready to put a smile on the world’s face on Digital HD, from December 17 onward. 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD copies will be available on January 7, and the film will be on HBO Max when the streaming service launches in the spring of 2020. If you’re looking for something to watch in the meantime, check out the 2019 release schedule. You never know where the next punchline will come from!
