Google brings AirDrop rival to Windows PCs via Chrome
After introducing Apple’s AirDrop rival Nearby Share in Android phones, Google is reportedly bringing it to Windows through Chrome. Nearby Share is similar to Apple’s AirDrop that is available across iPhone, iPad and Mac. Google will be bringing Nearby Share to Chromebooks as well. This feature is not available publicly yet and Windows users will have access to it on Chrome developer channel.

Google’s Nearby Share feature can be used to send photos, videos, documents, URLs, Tweets and other content among multiple devices together.
To access the feature, head to Chrome Dev or Canary channel and open ‘chrome://flags’. Now, scroll down to find the Nearby Sharing feature and enable it. Then restart the Chrome browser to start using it by visiting ‘chrome://nearby’.
As far as support for Nearby Share is concerned,Google told Android Police, “We’re currently conducting a beta test of a new Nearby Share feature that we plan to share more information on in the future. Our goal is to launch the feature with support for Android 6+ devices as well as other platforms,” For those unaware the feature is similar to Wi-Fi Direct but it’s much simpler to use.
Meanwhile, Samsung also introduced Quick Share for Galaxy smartphones. Now with Google bringing its Nearby Share feature, transferring large files among Android phones will be easy and the fact that it will be a system system will make it easier for users as they will not have to depend on specific apps like SHAREit.
As for Chrome, Google is working on a feature that will allow you to save articles so that you can view them later. This Read Later feature may be offered on Chrome OS, macOS, Windows, and Linux. This Read Later feature is available as a flag in Chrome 86.
