Manitoba Hydro is asking for the public’s help in locating power line equipment that was scattered by a tornado that touched down southeast of Virden on Friday evening.

Kurtis Fafard who witnessed the tornado form at approximately 8 p.m. near Scarth, 16 kilometres south of Virden last night, told the Sun that he saw power poles had been torn out of the ground. As of 10 p.m. Friday night, Manitoba Hydro said there were more than 100 customers without power in the Virden area. Power was expected to be restored early this morning.

Spokesman Bruce Owen told the Sun this morning that the tornado system scattered poles, wire, transformers and other hardware in the area.

“If customers see anything from our power lines, they can let our crews know or call us 1-888-624-9376 and we’ll pick it up,” Owen said.

The Brandon Sun has a team on the ground near Scarth this morning. We will post an update on this story later today.
