Broader infection rates across Lancashire continue to fall - but there is a mixed picture when it comes to the worst hit hyper local neighbourhoods in the county.

The rates across Lancashire's 14 council areas have, so far, consistently fallen this week in what is a positive sign that transmission of the virus is reducing.

Blackburn with Darwen remains the worst hit area in all of England with a rate of 725.5 new cases per 100,000 people in the week to October 29. This was down by 5.7% on the previous week.

When looking at neighbourhood infection rates, the worst hit in Lancashire remains the hyper local area of Bastwell in Blackburn, with a rate of 1,361.8 in the week to October 29. But the rate has dropped by 19% on the previous week, with 24 less cases being recorded in comparison. There were still 102 new cases recorded across the week.

Similarly, in the neighbouring Blackburn area of Little Harwood, the rate has fallen by 14.4% to 961, with 15 less cases recorded than in the week before. The week still saw 89 new cases across the week.

Over in Preston, the worst hit neighbourhood remains as Frenchwood & Fishwick, which has a rate of 814.3 after 76 new cases were recorded. But this has fallen by 8.4% compared to the previous week, where there were 83 new cases of Covid-19.

Brierfield & Reedley in Pendle saw cases drop by 14.1%, with its rate now sitting at 645 with 61 new cases confirmed over the seven days. Crawshawbooth, Reedsholme & Water in Rossendale also saw a significant drop in cases of 33.3%, with 44 positive tests in the week seeing the rate of infection fall to 548.7.

The localised data is mapped using using Middle layer Super Output Areas; hyper local areas with an average population of 7,200 people. Using coronavirus testing data from Public Health England, cases of the virus have been mapped using these hyper local areas to document infection rates on a neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood level.

As mentioned, the map is current showing cases in the week to October 29.

Worrying in Blackpool, the Central Blackpool neighbourhood has seen cases boom by 77.4%, with 55 new cases recorded across the week giving the area an infection rate of 772.6.

And in Accrington North East, the infection rate has risen by 35.7% to 613.4 after 76 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed by Public Health England over the week.
