Microsoft may have 'bad news' for Intel

Microsoft may have more bad news for Intel as the company is possibly looking at replacing Intel chips with its own ARM-based chips for servers and Surface PCs. As per a report by Bloomberg News, Microsoft is preparing its own ARM-based chips for servers providing Azure cloud services.
Microsoft is also looking at creating a new ARM-based chip for Surface PCs as well.However, there is no official word on the same. Microsoft has been looking at alternatives to Intel chips for quite some time and worked with Qualcomm and AMD for Surface devices. The company had also worked to create an ARM-based SQ1 and SQ2 processors for Surface devices. It also introduced AMD’s Ryzen series processors for Surface Laptop 3.
In a report by The Verge, Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw did not deny the development and said, “Because silicon is a foundational building block for technology, we’re continuing to invest in our own capabilities in areas like design, manufacturing and tools, while also fostering and strengthening partnerships with a wide range of chip providers.”
The Surface Pro X recently arrived in India. The Surface Pro X comes in two storage variants. The Surface Pro X SQ2/16/256GB LTE variant comes at Rs 1,49,999 and the SQ2/16/512GB LTE model comes at Rs 1,78,999. The new variants of the Surface Pro X come powered by Microsoft SQ 2 processor, which the company claims is the fastest processor in its class.
Recently, Intel announced a new range of products with artificial intelligence (AI), security, functional safety and real-time capabilities in the internet of things (IoT) devices. The new capabilities will feature in 11th Gen Intel Core processors, Intel Atom x6000E series, and Intel Pentium and Celeron N and J series processors.
