Sponsors and donations wanted for annual online radio auction to support community groups

Businesses are asked to dig deep for this year’s Rotary Club of Boulder annual online radio auction, with sponsors and donations now wanted.

Aiming to beat last year’s record-setting $165,000 fundraiser, organisers are looking for businesses keen to get involved across three sponsorship packages or donate goods to be auctioned.

Radio auction chair Stuart Fleming said sponsorship for the event was a vital aspect of the fundraising effort and helped the club run the major funding event, now in its 37th year.

“All the money raised stays local, supports local community groups and projects that might not otherwise happen without the support of the radio auction,” he said.

“It’s a great way to advertise your business and get involved in an event that benefits the entire community.

“The radio auction brings together donors, sponsors, beneficiaries and community groups to raise funds for local groups and projects.”

This year three sponsorship packages are available including gold $5000, silver $2000 and nickel $1000 packages.

The Murphy Boyden Launch Party will take place at the Overland Motel on October 21, followed by the community carnival on October 30 at the Kalgoorlie Country Club on Egan Street.

The online auction will be open from 6am on October 21 and closes nine days later following the street carnival.

The Goldfields Family Assistance Fund Raffle will also be hosted again, with $25,000 from this raffle helping families with sick children travel away from the Goldfields for medical treatment.

The GFAF is also the major beneficiary of the radio auction, with a further $25,000 being contributed to the fund, totalling $50,000 for the second year in a row.

Rotary projects in the Goldfields will also be supported, including the high school scholarship program, defibrillator project and the national youth science forum initiative.

Mr Fleming said community beneficiaries would this year include the Goldfields Football League colts, Goldfields Soup Patrol, Goldfields Regional Toy Library and Boulder Scouts.

“Some of our beneficiaries are annual recipients and some don’t have the ability to fundraise themselves, so it’s great to be able to provide this funding and see the projects progress in the community,” he said.

“Our community carnival involves all of our beneficiaries, and sponsors and donors are also invited to attend, (it) brings everyone together to discuss their projects and needs and everyone can see or hear first-hand where the money is going.”

Primary schools, Impact Youth Goldfields, Sandalwood Family Centre, Christmas in the Park and the Eastern Goldfields BMX Club will also benefit.

Funds raised will also be allocated to sporting clubs, the Eastern Goldfields Miners’ Memorial and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group.
