TEMPO.CO, JakartaDespite seeing a fall, the American passport ranks ninth as the world’s most powerful passport in 2025 according to the Henley Passport Index list. Among the 227 global destinations registered in the index, individuals holding United States passports can access 186 countries without a prior visa. 

Regardless, the international travel trend is still very much alive around Americans as there are other additional options including visa-on-arrival and Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) available to cross numerous borders. 

In this article, we’ll take a look at the list of visa-free countries for U.S. passport holders in 2025, grouping them into visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and eTA requirement tags.

List of Visa-Free Countries for U.S. Passport Holders 

1. List of Countries Requiring No Visa for U.S. Passport Holders 

Holders of United States passports benefit from visa-free entry requirements to 140 destinations, with allowed stay periods ranging from 30 to 360 days.

Americans can obtain a visa-on-arrival (VOA) in 37 countries, typically issued at airports or border points:
