COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - April 1 is Election Day in Colorado Springs, and KKTV wants you to Know Before You Vote!

Brandy Williams is one of the candidates running for Colorado Springs City Council in District 3.

Below is a candidate profile submitted to KKTV 11 News by Williams:

Hometown: Colorado Springs

How long have you lived in Colorado Springs? 46 years, my entire life

Education: Bachelor of Science - Civil Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University

Profession: Professional Engineer

Previously held and current elected positions: At-Large City Councilmember, City of Colorado Springs

Top five priorities for Colorado Springs:

Safe Communities

Colorado Springs is at a pivotal time with regard to public safety. In the past 10 years the relationship has changed between the public and those that risk their lives to keep us safe. I am honored to be endorsed by the Colorado Springs Police Protective Association, and I will advocate for our current officers, I will help recruit new officers and I do all that I can to ensure a prosperous and safe Colorado Springs.

Prioritize Infrastructure

Colorado Springs has unique challenges when it comes to our roads. We have a freeze thaw cycle, which causes our roads to fail very often during the winter. I will advocate for initial quality construction and for continued resources to be spent within the district to minimize the number of potholes citizens encounter.

Robust Economy

Our job as an elected representative is to lead by example. Having served on City Council I know demands of the position, I know the frustrations of the citizens and I know that I can remain calm under pressure. Both for our current business community and those businesses considering relocating to Colorado Springs, I will be a voice of reason and common sense as a member of City Council.

Low Utility Rates

As a city, we are the proud owners of our own utility company, Colorado Springs Utilities. One of the advantages of having a municipally owned utility company is lower utility rates. When I was on City Council previously, I took it upon myself to work with utilities staff to minimize the fluctuations in our monthly utility bills. As we continue to see prices increasing at the grocery store, I will do my best to help keep our utility rates as low as possible.

Emergency Preparedness

As a community, it is in our best interest to be prepared for an emergency. I am grateful that the Office of Emergency Management is now a joint effort between El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs. I would work with the citizens of District 3 to understand their concerns and help facilitate any larger conversations necessary with the Office of Emergency Management so that citizens have a plan to implement in case of an emergency.

What are your goals for the district in which you’re running?

Increase public safety, responsive road repairs and proactive fire mitigation are my main three goals for District 3.
