LAYTON, Utah (KUTV) — An apartment lost nearly $150,000 in damages after "dropped cigarette ashes" reportedly started a fire.
Just after 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, the Layton City Fire and Hill Air Force Base departments responded to an apartment fire near 1925 North Hillfield Road.
As they made their way over, crews said they could see a large column of smoke from "some distance away."
Initial reports indicated the fire had started in a bedroom of a two-story four-plex. The resident reported having "dropped cigarette ashes," the fire department said, although a conclusion as to how the fire started has not yet been determined.
