Seriously… you know, your choices are actually “cheap”.
Recently I head a system with the Wilson Master Chronosonics and the D’Agostino amps and preamp… top of the line…. that stuff, not counting the source components, stands, cables…. runs a cool US1Mil.
Mind you, I didn’t like the sound. To me it was too sterile and not realistic. It didn’t sound like mid hall, orchestra row L. It sounded like I was hanging from the front of stage, about 14 feet up a stick. Too much detail, not enough coherence to the sound.
That’s the issue, see? If you use money as the yardstick, you end up with these things.
Basically when you approach High End Audio with the idea that money equates Audio quality, then you’re doing it all wrong.
It’s like getting a modern Ferrari or a Trophy Wife. You get all the status but not that much real performance.
And in your choice of components… well… you aimed too low.

I have two audio systems. One is located in a dedicated, custom built listening room and the other in a living room. The living room system has a mix of used and new equipment for digital only listening. It cost me about $5,000. The other room cost me $150,000 to build despite being 1/3 smaller in size and is centered around Von Schweikert VR9 SE Mk2 with upgraded wiring and 1000w built-in sub amplifier. It was SOTA (state of the art) in 2016. Otherwise, I have new DAC, CD transport, cabling, room electrical design, monoblock amps, pre-amp, analog system (well purchased new and still like new). This system cost me $175,000. I derive great pleasure in listening to my music collection consisting of 31,300 LPs, 7,000 78s, 16,100 CDs, R2R tapes. The speakers in both my living room and listening room have rear supertweeters, creating an ambient sound that one can enjoy standing, sitting and even laying down-fantastic dispersion. Each system can play very dynamically, full range 13 Hz to beyond hearing and every type of music based on a recreation of acoustic vocal and instrumental music. The resolution of the music is superior in the listening room.
It’s creating a music system with excellent speakers in a decent acoustic room that will determine how satisfying high end equipment will sound as well as inexpensive quality equipment.
It’s the music that counts most.

That sounds wonderful Stephen. I wish I had a room dedicated purely to music listening. If only I had sufficient affluence to afford the type of systems you have.
For myself, I have a system that costs less than €5,000. It satisfies me and I use it to listen to music every single day.
I must have missed something because I didn’t comprehend the purpose of your comment. The description of your setup was vaguely interesting but didn’t really contribute anything to the article. The only thing that struck a chord with me was the last line.
It is, without doubt, the music that counts most.
