UK faces first mini-heatwave of year but one area is set to miss out
Fine and dry weather will see temperatures peak on Thursday, before a transition to more unsettled weather over the weekend.
One part of England is set to miss out on a mini March heatwave as the UK roasts in the hottest day of the year so far. Fine and dry weather will see temperatures peak on Thursday, before a transition to more unsettled weather over the weekend.
The Met Office says parts of the UK will sizzle in 21C highs - with London and the south affected most. But one area - northern Scotland - looks on course to miss out on the high temperatures.
The short term Met Office forecast explains: "A mostly dry day with plenty of sunshine after early frost and any fog clears. Feeling warm in most areas, though a southeasterly breeze developing for many, especially in the west. An isolated shower possible across central areas this afternoon.

"Staying mostly dry overnight, but turning increasingly cloudy from the west. A milder night for many and remaining rather breezy. Locally heavy showers arriving in the southwest towards dawn."
Looking at Friday's forecast, the Met Office outlook explains: "A bright and breezy day for many on Friday, with some warm sunshine at times. Locally heavy showery rain in the southwest reaching Wales and Northern Ireland by evening."
The weekend forecast adds: "Rather changeable over the weekend with showers or longer spells of rain likely, possibly heavy at times. Probably becoming mainly dry by Monday with bright spells. Turning gradually cooler."
The BBC says, today, northern areas will be dry and sunny once any early mist and fog dissipate. The south will also see sunny spells, but also some cloudy intervals and the outside chance of the odd shower.
"Tonight, much of the UK will be dry and clear. Low cloud is likely to develop in north-east England and eastern Scotland. The far south-west of England will see cloud and rain by dawn. Breezier," the outlook adds.
"Tomorrow will turn increasingly cloudy from the west, but eastern areas will still see bright spells. Some rain is expected at times in Northern Ireland and the far south-west of England. Breezy."
