A NEW beauty house ‘Beauty Point’ has opened its doors at Karsanji Street in Vatuwaqa, adding to the list of options for beauty enthusiasts in the country.
Owner, Nancy Hopkins said she has always been in the space of agriculture before expanding into beauty.
“I was into farming before starting this new venture, the beauty part came into account when I had an accident and I was in a wheelchair for a long time.
“Beauty came in due to the wellbeing of a person, to look good and feel good, that came into the picture.
“I met a lady (SAKTHI GOPAL, Business Consultant and Developer) who actually motivated me to get into the beauty industry and I wanted to do something for my family,” Ms Hopkins said.
The Vunisoco, Namosi native said the goal behind expanding into the beauty industry is to encourage her families with a “can do” mentality.
“I wanted to show my family, that we can do things, especially the young kids, the young girls. You don’t have to be a man to achieve everything,” Ms Hopkins said adding that she was the first woman farmer in her family.
“So I am also the first person doing this, and I wanted to encourage the youngsters in my family to say, ‘with hard work you can achieve anything’ and you can give back to your community.”
Ms Hopkins said she started farming 15years ago (2010) and following her accident, she had been recovering for at least seven years.
Beauty Point employs a total of six staff, highlighting their contribution to the Fijian economy.
During an interview, Ms Hopkins further acknowledged her support system for driving her dreams to reality.
“There is another person I want to thank and that’s Henry for having my back and my kids for the encouragement and love,” she said
Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to do a lot of research and talk to experienced people regarding running a business.
“I would actually hope that one day we can have a one stop shop where people can come and get all the information they need, that could help people start off a business especially for those that vision to introduce something new into Fiji’s business landscape.”
