Horror fans looking for a scare in “Fortnite” will get a fix with the release of Warner Bros.’ “Sinners: Survive the Night” game. Based on the upcoming film “Sinners” from director Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, the game launches Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

Keeping with the film’s R-rated spirit, “Sinners: Survive the Night” pits teams of six players against vampires in a survival horror challenge. However, there’s a twist: those eliminated subsequently turn into vampires, forcing players to fight against their former teammates in a multiplayer experience reminiscent of the “Halo” series’ Infection mode popularized many years ago. Players win by surviving until daylight as humans or, if they’ve been turned, eliminating all remaining human players before dawn. In-game currency can be collected by recruiting NPC allies and unlocking items within the experience.

Directed by “Black Panther” filmmaker Coogler, “Sinners” hits theaters April 18. The game, developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Editor for Fortnite, MetaHuman technology and Fortnite Creative, will be available to play on “Fortnite” through April 28.

Fandango has partnered with Warners on an exclusive offer within the game that grants players a buy-one-get-one-free ticket deal for “Sinners.” Livestreamers Myth and Khanada will also support the “Fortnite” experience on their channels, through marketing and influencer firm Moonrock, with support from Chartis Interactive.

Gaming platforms like Fortnite and Roblox have become lucrative marketing tools for studio films, especially at a time when the box office has become more challenging for original efforts.

Sporting a $90 million budget on production alone, “Sinners” is one of several high-profile, non-franchise films with hefty budgets on Warners’ 2025 film slate. Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17” released earlier in March and has amassed $110 million globally against its $120 million budget, while Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” bows September 26, starring Leonardo DiCaprio in a shoot that is rumored to have rung up more than $100 million, as well.

“Sinners” also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Miles Caton and Delroy Lindo.
