Despite offering one of the most user-friendly infotainment systems on the market today, Hyundai plans to revamp its technology interfaces in next-generation vehicles. The automaker recently announced its new Pleos software, which will form the basis of future infotainment interfaces and vehicle operating systems.

Based on the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS), the infotainment portion of the setup is called Pleos Connect. It will function similarly to a smartphone but will take advantage of larger vehicle touchscreens with split-screen options and other functions. Hyundai said the system will also offer apps, including Google-based software like Maps, Play Store, and Assistant.

The new Pleos system is part of Hyundai’s effort to shift to software-defined vehicles, which places a much heavier emphasis on the tech side of the experience and will allow the automaker to refresh and change vehicle functions via over-the-air updates. Fleet managers will also gain access to more advanced telematics software, including vehicle tracking, without additional hardware.

Hyundai plans to roll out the new interface by the end of 2026. In the meantime, the automaker has created a Pleos Playground program that gives third-party developers deep access to the software to create apps. Hyundai has opened access to cloud functions, vehicle analytics, and other functions, giving developers a head start to build out a robust ecosystem before the Pleos release.

  • ToolGuy TONY STARK NO LIKE WAITING FOR NEW CAR. WHY IS TONY STARK TALKING LIKE THE HULK.
  • Ras815 Elect a clown, expect a circus. Let's see how quickly it takes the MAGA p-sycophants to throw Elon under the bus, now that he's dared to go up against Dear Leader. We're back in the first term's get-your-popcorn-ready cycle of dismissing all the 'great people I've chosen', all over again.
  • Spamvw Unfortunately, we won't be getting stamped plates back. There is way too much security stuff and reflectiveness built into the new ones. 3M (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing) seems to have cornered the market. And they are much cheaper to produce it's just a decal. That said, I do miss the days when you could see a car from half a mile, and guess what state it was from. Fun game as a kid.
  • Fred Texas with the oil well, cowboy and Space Shuttle. Except maybe replace the shuttle with SpaceX to kiss you know who's behind.
  • RobbyG If you click the link and see related posts...another user recently posted an 87 CSX with very similar rust as paint with what appears to be sitting in the same yard as this one...listing a "parts car" and asking $800...hmmmmInteresting how $800 can be warped into $4500. My initial reaction to scrolling and seeing this post...I thought we were getting a bonus Junkyard Find this week.
