SAGINAW COUNTY, MI – A popular Saginaw-area doughnut-and-cider destination just welcomed six baby goats – otherwise known as kids.

Meanwhile, Police released the name of a Saginaw man fatally shot by officers over the weekend.

A Michigan doughnut-and-cider destination welcomes 6 baby goats in marathon session

Some new kids are on the block at a popular fall-time destination.

Staff at Leaman’s Green Applebarn, 7475 N. River in Saginaw County’s Tittabawassee Township, delivered six baby goats — also known as kids — there during a 12-hour period this week.

Popular for its doughnuts, apple cider and fall-time festivities, the Freeland business also earned a following for the farm animals that populate the property. Among those animals are about a dozen goats.

Police release name of Saginaw man killed in ‘suicide by cop’

Police have released the name of a Saginaw man fatally shot by officers over the weekend.

Corin M. Skinner, 33, died Sunday, March 30, in what police have described as a “suicide by cop” incident. The phrase describes when an individual engages law enforcement in an effort to force them to use deadly force against them.

Just before 7 p.m., Saginaw police officers responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Delaware Street on the city’s Northwest Side. Family members called 911 to report Skinner was armed with a knife and threatening suicide.

Controversial Saginaw doctor who owes bank $141K skips court to file bankruptcy in South Carolina

Beset by lawsuits and judgments on all sides, a local doctor was due in Saginaw County Business Court to explain why he hasn’t paid any of the nearly $150,000 he owes a federal savings bank. He didn’t show up, though, as he was in South Carolina, filing bankruptcy on behalf of one of his many corporations.

It’s the latest in a series of legal and financial troubles facing dermatopathologist Dr. David L. Stockman and his various entities.

Stockman was to appear before Saginaw County Business Court Judge M. Randall Jurrens on Friday, March 28, for a debtor discovery examination, during which he would be questioned under oath about his assets. The judge issued a bench warrant for the doctor when he failed to appear, as he first did in March 2024 and again the following January.

Saginaw County couple married for 61 years killed in 2-vehicle crash

A traffic crash has claimed the lives of a Hemlock couple married for 61 years.

About 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Holland (M-46) and Portsmouth roads in Buena Vista Township. They arrived to find a white 2015 Chevrolet Silverado had T-boned a red 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, according to Buena Vista Township Police Detective Russ Pahssen.

The Equinox was driven by 86-year-old Robert W. Gorney, his 83-year-old wife Arlene M. Gorney riding as a passenger. They were heading home from visiting their daughter in Frankenmuth, traveling west on M-46 when the collision occurred, Pahssen said.

How a $10M I-75 project may impact your Michigan travel plans

A $10.1 million bridges-focused renovation project will impact motorists traveling on I-75 in Saginaw County this spring, summer and fall.

Michigan Department of Transportation officials said crews will apply shoulder closures and lane shifts within the project’s boundaries beginning Monday, April 14. The work is expected to conclude in mid-November.

The traffic interruptions will extend across a six-mile stretch of I-75, from Maple Road in Birch Run to Riverview Drive in Bridgeport Township, state officials said.

Upper Peninsula man victim of fatal hit-and-run in Saginaw County

Police are looking for answers after a man from the Upper Peninsula was found dead on the side of a Saginaw County road, the victim of a hit-and-run.

About 3:50 a.m. on Monday, March 31, Buena Vista Township police responded to an area of M-13/ Veterans Memorial Parkway about a half-mile south of the Zilwaukee Bridge for a reported body in the road. The civilian who called 911 could not initially tell if the body was that of a man or woman, according to dispatch recordings on Broadcastify.com.

Officers arrived to find the body of a 20-year-old man from Au Train Township, located in the Upper Peninsula’s Alger County, according to Detective Russ Pahssen. Scattered around the body was debris from the vehicle police say struck him.

Saginaw Township home targeted by drive-by shooter who made 2 passes in gold car

A suspect is in custody after allegedly opening fire on a Saginaw Township house on a Sunday afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m. on March 30, police were dispatched to a house in the 4400 block of Ann Street for a reported shooting. Callers said their house was “shot up” by someone driving by in a gold sedan, according to dispatch recordings on Broadcastify.com.

The sedan turned around and did a second pass to continue firing, the callers said. They provided dispatchers with the name of a 23-year-old man they believed was the potential shooter.

Detroit-area man charged with trafficking Saginaw woman, forcing her into prostitution

A Detroit-area man is accused of trafficking a Saginaw woman, forcing her to engage in prostitution and keeping the resulting money.

Officers with the Oakland County Human Trafficking Task Force on March 21 arrested 24-year-old Marcell D. Joseph in Madison Heights. Joseph allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old Saginaw woman on several occasions and forced her to have sex with other men for money, said Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard.

Joseph kept the money for himself and refused to give any to the woman, Bouchard added.

Saginaw man stabbed with screwdriver on West Side

Police are investigating a man stabbed with a screwdriver on Saginaw’s West Side.

About 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Witters Street. They arrived to find three adult men had been in a scuffle.

One of the men suffered a stab wound to his back with a screwdriver. The alleged stabber was struck with a garden tool, police said.

Single-vehicle crash claims life of Hemlock man

A traffic crash has claimed the life of a Hemlock man.

Saginaw County Sheriff’s deputies at about 5:30 p.m. on March 30 responded to the crash site on South Meridian Road near Swan Creek Road in Lakefield Township. They arrived to find a vehicle had struck on tree on the road’s east side.

Responders pronounced the vehicle’s driver and lone occupant, 35-year-old Nicholas Hughes, deceased at the scene.

Real-life ‘Captain Phillips’ to speak in Michigan about being held hostage by pirates

The real-life captain whose high-seas ordeal became a Hollywood blockbuster is coming to Frankenmuth.

Richard Phillips, the former cargo ship captain who was held hostage by Somali pirates in 2009, will speak from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, at the Bronner Performing Arts Center, 525 E. Genesee St., as part of a special evening hosted by the Michigan Heroes Museum.

The event comes during a milestone year for the Michigan Heroes Museum, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary of honoring the lives and legacies of Michigan military veterans and astronauts.
