Britain's Got Talent fans just realising where they've seen 'golden buzzer' act before

Britain's Got Talent fans have just realising where TV watchers may have seen Maya before – and the revelation has divided fans about whether her getting the Golden Buzzer is fair

Britain's Got Talent fans saw a promising 14-year-old singer became the show's "quickest ever Golden Buzzer act" during the ITV show on Saturday - and fans are just realising where you may have seen her before. Maya Giotea, who walked onto the BGT stage in casual jeans and a baggy shirt, blew the judges away after singing Listen, performed by Beyoncé in the hit film Dreamgirls.

"This has been a big dream for such a long time, and I’m here. I’m here," she said ahead of her performance. Alesha Dixon said she "picked one of the hardest songs to sing in the world", but Maya proved that she had what it takes.

The teenager, from Romania, caught the audience's attention immediately, belted strong notes out, and got a standing ovation from the crowd. Former Strictly Come Dancing star turned BGT judge Bruno Tonioli said of Maya's performance: "This was the most mature, accomplished version of this song that I've heard from someone so young."

Meanwhile KSI said: "With confidence like that, you just blew me and everyone here away, honestly." Amanda Holden added: "From the minute you walked on stage, I just knew it. Your parents must be super proud of you at this moment." She later added: "That must be the quickest Golden Buzzer in BGT history."

Maya couldn't even finishing the song before Bruno pressed the Golden Buzzer. Now, the singer will go straight through to the live semi-finals – but not everyone agrees that the decision is fair.

It comes as fans realised that Maya appeared on Romania's Got Talent last year, where she received a standing ovation for her rendition of Whitney Houston’s hit song ‘I Have Nothing’. According to her Facebook page, the up-and-coming singer has also appeared in other competitions and festivals.

One individual wrote on X: "So tonight.. #bgt so far has.. Maya from Romania Got Talent (got to the live performance show) Alexandra from Canada Got Talent."

Another fumed: "She also got the Golden Buzzer on Romania's Got Talent, last year... go figure." Another said: "Yet again been on Romania's Got Talent and Got the Golden Buzzer even though there is none left'."

One other added: "'Maya Giotea who got the Golden Buxzer on BGT tonight was on Romania's Got Talent and got through to the live shows."

"People are not happy with Britain's Got Talent act over her past," @indigoreports shared on TikTok, and people rushed to comment. "It's not Britain's got talent anymore, it's a joke," said one. One other said: "It's a rigged show and producers always cast unprofessionally and unfairly." "This is basically all the show is now," agreed another.

"No she shouldn't have had it, it should be for British only," commented one other. "BGT is just Earth's Got Talent at this point, who even watches it?" Another commented: "I don't agree with singers on Britain’s got talent there are other shows for those wanting to go into singing."

But others disagreed, as one said: "Unnecessary drama! If she manages to get a golden buzzer twice than she very likely deserves it! There's no rule forbidding people to contest at multiple shows."

"Who actually cares, she's brilliant and she deserves all the praise," insisted another. "She has a good voice and deserved the buzzer so who cares," agreed another.

One other pointed out: "She's in it to win it. She deserved the golden buzzer. Doesn't matter how many talent shows she enters the girl is trying to make it big clearly. Good on her for entering everything she can."
