BSF jawan injured in IED blast in Punjab on Pakistan border

While sanitising the area, the detonating device of the IEDs, which was concealed, accidentally got triggered, resulting in a serious leg injury to the jawan

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained a serious injury on Wednesday after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded ahead of the fence along the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab, according to a statement.

The BSF statement said the incident occurred on the intervening night of April 8 and 9, when a BSF party, during an area domination patrol ahead of the border security fence, detected suspicious items well inside the Indian territory.

“During this operation, the troops identified a suspected IED planted ahead of the fence, indicating a clear attempt to target security forces and farmers. Further inspection revealed a network of concealed wires in the fields, confirming the presence of multiple IEDs. While sanitising the area, the detonating device of the IEDs, which was concealed, accidentally got triggered, resulting in a serious leg injury to a BSF jawan,” the statement said. It added that, despite the inherent risks, the troops continued their operation, successfully securing the area and preventing a potentially massive tragedy to the force personnel and farmers.

After the daybreak, the BSF bomb disposal squad reached the spot, defused the IEDs and ensured the safety of the area, said the statement.
