Windows 11 KB5055523

The latest cumulative update for Windows 11, KB5055523, has left users scratching their heads due to the sudden appearance of a mysterious folder named “inetpub” on the C drive. This unexpected addition has sparked curiosity and concern within the Windows community.

According to Neowin, the “inetpub” folder, which is empty by default, is not protected and can be safely deleted without affecting system performance or processes.

Its presence may be related to Microsoft’s Internet Information Services (IIS), a platform for hosting websites and services. However, IIS is typically turned off by default in modern versions of Windows, leaving the folder’s creation a mystery.

Microsoft has not commented on the anomaly despite user speculation, leaving its origin and purpose unclear. While the folder poses no immediate harm, the unexpected change has made many users eager for clarification.

Earlier this week, the Redmond-based tech giant released this month’s Patch Tuesday updates, fixing hundreds of security issues, including one zero-day vulnerability.
