ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4)—The Saint Louis Zoo is mourning the death of one of its oldest animals.

Othello, a centenarian Aldabra giant tortoise, was humanely euthanized on Tuesday due to declining health from a gastrointestinal issue, according to the Saint Louis Zoo.

Othello arrived in the United States as a mature adult in 1938 alongside another Aldabra giant tortoise, Ray. Othello and Ray joined the Saint Louis Zoo in 2004.

While Othello’s exact age is not known, the Zoo said he was well over 100 years old at the time of his death.
