Gold Medal Classic action goes to the wire

HERMANSVILLE — A pair of one possession games highlighted Wednesday’s action at the 86th Gold Medal Classic at the Frank Rodman Community Club in Hermansville.
The first game featured Dave’s Auto picking up a 73-70 victory over R-Place. Reece Castor hit the go ahead basket and drew a foul with four seconds to go in the game. Castor led the way for Dave’s Auto with 22 points followed by Marcus Johnson with 21 and Oscar Kangas had 11.
Ryan Sweeney led the way for R-Place with 22 points. Josh Williams added 15 and Nic Williams had 11.
The second game featured the Stephenson Strollers picking up a 74-71 win over the Morning Ballers from Gladstone.
Jake Brock led the way for Stephenson with 16 points. Justin Bloniarz added 13 and Owen Keuhnau had nine.
“This is one of my favorite things of the year,” Brock said. “I coach the JV team at Stephenson, and to be able to play with the kids that I coached is just awesome.”
In the third game, Jim’s Plumbing of Wallace picked up a 75-59 win over Gallino Seamless Gutters of Vulcan and in the nightcap Wildwood took down LL3J 66-54 in Class E action.
