Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle's 'life changing' announcement
Susan's BGT audition has been viewed millions of times
One of the best-known acts to ever appear on Britain's Got Talent is Susan Boyle. The singer surprised audiences when she appeared on the show 16 years ago, wowing the judges before finishing as runner-up to the dance group Diversity.
Susan has previously spoken about how she nearly abandoned her plans to enter Britain's Got Talent, believing she was too old. After her performance, show judge Amanda Holden commented on the audience's original judgement, and the subsequent "biggest wake-up call ever" upon hearing her performance.
Despite being favourite to win the competition in 2008, she ended the show as runner-up. Since then, the 64-year-old has had a successful music career, releasing a number of albums and selling out shows across the world.
Sharing a clip of her BGT audition on Instagram, Susan wrote: "16 years ago today, my @bgt audition first aired on UK TV, and my life changed forever!
"I stepped out onto that stage with absolutely nothing except my dream. That was all I had back then. I was an unknown woman from Scotland, and thanks to all of you, I’m known around the world. Here’s to ALWAYS chasing your dreams!"
Fans of the show commented as they reflected on the famous audition. Braden wrote: "I was 6 when this audition was on the TV. Now I’m 22 and still to this day, it’s my favourite audition I have ever watched. Forever a legend, Susan."
Regina commented "I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this video. Wishing you all the best. Thank you for everything." Maria added "I love this audition. The best ever. I sometimes go find it and listen to it again. Best audition ever, especially the reactions of the judges was priceless."
Others replied "There will never be an audition like this. Absolutely the best one!!!" and "Brilliant people who come to light to show us that anything can be done when you want."
Susan celebrated her birthday last week, she she posed in front of a balloon which had "Happy Birthday Susan" written across it. The former BGT contestant thanked fans for their ongoing support.
The singer said "I just wanted to personally thank you all for your wonderful birthday wishes over the past few days! You’ve made an old woman very happy!! Enjoy your weekend! Susan x."
She marked a return to social media on April 1 2025, following an absence of two years. She has this month announced new projects which she was "excited to share" and indicated forthcoming music releases.
