Sangareddy: A farmer who accidentally stepped on an electric wire that snapped during heavy rains on Thursday at Minpur Thanda in Pulkal mandal was electrocuted on Friday night.
According to villagers, the overhead electric wires had snapped at several places in the village following the heavy rains and winds on Thursday. Following a complaint from the farmers, Transco officials told them that they had stopped the power supply and would restore it after all the poles and lines were reinstalled. However, the wires remained on the ground at many places until Friday when the victim Ramavath Ramesh (33) came in touch with one such wire on Friday night unaware that there was an electric line with power supply on the ground. He was electrocuted on the spot.
When the farmer did not return home, the villagers searched for him everywhere and found him dead in the field on Saturday morning. The villagers demanded stern action against Transco officials and demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation to the victim’s family members. Ramesh is survived by his wife and two daughters.
The villagers were preparing to take the body to a local substation to stage a protest.
