Weezer bassist confirms Coachella gig in bizarre response to wife's shooting and arrest
Weezer bassist Scott Shriner is moving forward with the band’s Coachella performance, despite his wife Jillian’s recent shooting and arrest in a police incident
Weezer bassist Scott Shriner has confirmed Coachella appearance after his wife was shot by Los Angeles police and charged with attempted murder. The renowned music and arts festival held in Indio, California, has returned for its 2025 instalment.
Scheduled over two weekends, April 11–13 and April 18–20, the festival features a diverse lineup of artists, with headliners including Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott. Amid his wife’s shocking arrest, Scott pressed on with promoting his band’s highly anticipated Coachella show this weekend. Meanwhile, a terrifying incident unfolded outside their Los Angeles home.
Jillian Lauren, 51, was shot and injured on Wednesday afternoon after becoming involved in an unrelated police manhunt that took place in their neighbourhood. The 59-year-old rock star later confirmed his much-anticipated appearance at the upcoming music festival during a casual stroll outside his home on Thursday.
Accompanied by his four dogs, he appeared calm and collected as he acknowledged the ongoing situation. When asked about his wife, Jillian, he simply replied, “She’s alright, thank you for asking,” before adding, “See you at Coachella!”
Jillian was involved in a police incident on April 8, 2025, in Los Angeles. While police were searching for suspects in a hit-and-run case in the Eagle Rock neighbourhood, Shriner reportedly emerged from her home armed with a handgun.
Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, she allegedly pointed it at officers, leading them to shoot her in the shoulder. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Shriner was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released on a $1 million bond.
“The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times. However, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, prompting at least one to open fire,” the LAPD said in a statement.
Musician Shriner and author Lauren have been married since November 2005 and have two adopted children together as well as two dogs. Jillian is a published author, best known for her 2010 memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem. The book details her time spent with Prince Jefri Bolkiah, the brother of the Sultan of Brunei, between 1992 and 1995.
Meanwhile, Shriner has been a part of Weezer since 2001, making him the band's longest-serving bass player. They previously gave a memorable Coachella performance in 2019, where they surprised the crowd by bringing out special guests like TLC's Chilli for a live rendition of "No Scrubs" and Tears for Fears for "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."
