Leicester City brought an end to an eight-match losing run in the Premier League as they returned with a point from Saturday’s trip to face Brighton and Hove Albion.

The visitors twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with the Seagulls. Stephy Mavididi equalised in the 38th minute after Joao Pedro had put the hosts in front from the spot, then Caleb Okoli did the same after another Pedro penalty.

The point may not be enough to save City, however. They could be relegated before they kick another ball, if Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Tottenham Hotspur today (Sunday) and Manchester United next weekend. Below is a look at what the national media have had to say about the Foxes’ latest result.

BBC Sport

Leicester may have little left to play for this season, but they arrived in Brighton determined to end a run of eight consecutive league defeats without scoring.

Okoli's late equaliser sparked celebrations among the travelling support, who have had very little to cheer since their promotion from the Championship.

But the reality remains stark. Leicester will find themselves 17 points from safety with just 18 points left to play for if 17th-placed Wolves beat Spurs on Sunday.

Relegation could be confirmed as early as next Sunday, when they face leaders Liverpool and Wolves take on Manchester United.

Leicester goals are like London buses. Having not scored for eight games, Ruud Van Nistelrooy's beleaguered Foxes twice came from behind to claim an unlikely point at Brighton.

The next stop is still certain to be a one-way ticket to the Championship but finally, Van Nistelrooy at least saw his players show heart.

The ramifications of this result are far more significant for Brighton, whose chances of a place in Europe next season have become more remote, winless as they are in the last four games.

Both of their goals were penalties. Awarded thanks to VAR and expertly dispatched by Joao Pedro but it was Leicester's Stehpy Mavididi who was the game's best player, a constant torment to Brighton's defence down the left.

It had to happen sometime and after 885 minutes of waiting Leicester finally had something to cheer.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side arrived at the Amex Stadium without a goal in eight league games and with relegation drawing ever closer.

But Stephy Mavididi’s first half effort - followed by Caleb Okoli’s second half header - meant that for once, Van Nistelrooy wasn’t forced to unpick another demoralising defeat.

A hard-fought draw does nothing to alter the fact Leicester are destined to go down, nor does it lift any of the pressure on the manager.

But after such a miserable run they will take all the positives they can.

The Guardian

First the good news for Leicester fans: Stephy Mavididi’s goal meant their side avoided matching Crystal Palace’s unwanted record of failing to score in nine straight Premier League defeats as they twice came from behind against Brighton to pick up their first point since the end of January.

Unfortunately for Ruud van Nistelrooy and his beleaguered players, it has surely only delayed the inevitable for another week. Two more wins for Wolves will confirm Leicester’s return to the Championship after a season to forget. But having twice fallen behind to penalties from João Pedro, it was the visiting supporters who came away smiling for a change as Caleb Okoli’s thumping header denied Brighton the victory they craved. Bilal El Khannouss – who scored Leicester’s last goal against Tottenham back in the depths of January – almost won it late on for Leicester when he struck the post late on.

Brighton could not have asked for better opponents as they attempted to get their season back on track after four games without a win. A dismal run of 15 defeats from Leicester’s previous 16 games has meant that any hopes of repeating their great escape of 2015 when they took 22 points from a possible 27 under Nigel Pearson after being bottom at Christmas have long since dissipated. Mavididi’s early effort that was blocked by Carlos Baleba was greeted with ironic chants of “we’ve had a shot” from their long-suffering fans.
