Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones says former partner Wynne Evans is "incredible" after he became embroiled in a fresh scandal.

Welsh opera singer Wynne, 53, is said to have sent fellow Strictly contestant Jamie Borthwick, 30, a sex toy as a joke. According to The Mirror, the item was brandished backstage during the Strictly live tour.

The footage is then said to have been shared in the Strictly Come Dancing WhatsApp group, which contained celebrity contestants from the series. A source said: “As soon as BBC executives were made aware of this shocking and immature footage being shared they formally addressed the issue and reminded the pair they had to act professionally."

The Sun reports that EastEnders actor Jamie and Wynne were said to be acting “extremely immaturely” after the item was sent to Birmingham’s Utilita Arena reception. They said: “Bosses were horrified and shocked, hoping to nip the issue in the bud, unaware the video had been shared more widely."

The video is understood to have been filmed shortly after Wynne made a sexual remark towards host Janette Manrara at the photocall for the Strictly tour. He was dropped from the show shortly afterwards.

Wynne apologised for causing “pain” with his “inappropriate language” and has taken a break from hosting his BBC Radio Wales show. The Mirror reports he has also been axed from the GoCompare adverts.

Now Katya, 35, who spent nine weeks on Strictly with Wynne last year, has revealed how she feels about the singer. Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine, she said: “I can only obviously speak from my personal experience, but I thought Wynne was incredible.

“We spent a huge amount of time together and we had a brilliant partnership. We got on like a house on fire.”

Fans of the hit BBC show believed there was a rift between Wynne and Katya after the Russian dancer was seen moving his hand away from her waist and blanking him for a high-five. Katya however insists it was merely an “inside joke” that “backfired” after Wynne faced a public backlash.

While many fans were concerned for Katya, she insists she looks back on their time positively. She added: “Wynne has never made me feel uncomfortable in any way. We’ve had the most incredible time together, which no one can take away from us.

“I look back fondly on it. I carried on with the tour without him, but it was a shame because we were having a fabulous time and the crowd loved him.”

Wynne is reportedly planning to take action and seek “recompense” following his axe from the Strictly tour. It came as he issued a rare social media update following the incident, revealing a personal best time on his bike.
