Tony Lee Darnell, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on August 21, 1945, in Gastonia, North Carolina. He passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. Tony's life was characterized by his wittiness, strong will and fearless spirit, which he brought into both his personal and professional endeavors.
Educated at Wake Forest University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree, Tony excelled in his career as a salesperson for a tire distributor. His natural leadership abilities, coupled with his dry humor, allowed him to stand out in his field, ultimately achieving the distinction of being a top salesperson with Uniroyal.
Tony was a man of many interests. He found joy in watching old movies and was an enthusiastic supporter of Wake Forest football and basketball. His fondness for the sounds of music filled his life with rhythm, reflecting his love for the culture of the 1960s.
Family was of utmost importance to Tony. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his son Patrick (Christin) Darnell and son Nick (Beth) Darnell, as well as two granddaughters and two grandsons who adored him. He is also survived by his sister, Nickie (Ronnie) Avery, and nephews Jody Avery and Jeff Avery. Tony's former wife, Alice-Marie Darnell, also remembers him fondly.
Tony joins in resting his beloved parents, Roy Lee Darnell and Annie Remona Edge Darnell, as well as his grandmother, Vera Edge.
