Water line burst causes flooding on South Bend’s west side
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A water line burst has caused flooding and a temporary road closure in the LaSalle Park neighborhood on South Bend’s west side.
It happened early this morning in the 3700 block of W. Western Avenue in between Wellington Street and Illinois Street. Officers went door-to-door along Illinois Street to alert homeowners of possible flooding in their basements.
City officials say repairs to the 12-inch water main are expected to be completed by 8 p.m. Once finished, water service will be restored to the 10 impacted customers.
The westbound lane of Western Avenue will reopen at that time, however the eastbound lane will remain closed until pavement restoration work can be completed. Western Avenue is expected to fully reopen by Friday.
You can take Sample Street as a detour by taking Mayflower Road or Olive Street, depending on which direction you’re coming from.
