KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An area man is facing several felony charges for his alleged role in an armed carjacking that took place in broad daylight.

According to documents filed by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, 32-year-old Andrew Aguilar is charged with vehicle hijacking, armed criminal action and tampering with a motor vehicle. They stem from an incident reported to the Kansas City Police Department on April 9.

Officers were called to the residential area of W. 50th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 3:30 p.m. that day on reports of an armed robbery.

In a statement to police, the victim said he was sitting in his truck working on his computer when two men walked past.

One of the men reportedly told the victim he had something hanging from the back of his truck, so he got out to go see. When he did, he said the men each pointed handguns at him before Aguilar took his keys and drove the truck away with the other man in the passenger seat.

Several hours later, around 10 p.m., other KCPD officers reported seeing the truck near 27th Street and Gillham Road.

The officers said they turned on their emergency lights and sirens and tried to pull the truck over, but it did not stop. They briefly lost sight of the truck before finding it abandoned at 55th Street and Cherry Street, approximately four miles south.

Documents state that Aguilar left several items behind in the truck, including a notification of detainer from the Jackson County Detention Center that had his name, birthday and a photo of him.

The victim was reportedly able to identify Aguilar from a photo lineup, and DNA testing of the truck returned positive indications that Aguilar may have been involved.

It is unclear when Aguilar was arrested, but he is listed in the Jackson County Detention Center’s current booking records. He is being held on several failure-to-appear warrants and is on hold for the Clay County, Missouri, and Johnson County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Offices. He is under a $5,000, $15,000 and $7,500 bond in addition to two $50,000 bonds.

There is currently no information on the other suspect.
