Last week the Marshall County Commission approved to go out for bids to construct a new storm shelter at Alder Springs.
District 4 Commissioner Joey Baker asked the council to approve paying $100,000 out of the county-wide fund with the remaining coming from his district funds.
“I’ve been working on trying to get a storm shelter for Alder Springs since 2022. I’ve been trying to get grant money and not been too successful, but I’ve had people tell me they could give me some grant money. But I would like to go out to bids for it. Rick (Watson) has one that he built maybe two years ago and that’s the one we want to go with, just like his,” said District 4 Commissioner Joey Baker.
“If y’all would, I would appreciate if we could go up to $100,000 and the remaining, I will pay out of my funds. I’ve only got two shelters in my area total, and we’d like to have about two or three more. We’re getting there.”
This will be a 92-person shelter.
Commission also approved the first liquor and alcohol licenses since the new wet referendum.
