When the SF team got the call to attend a dealer demo-day for the Can-Am Outlander series, we knew we were in for something special. Held in the rugged terrain of Montalet-le-Bois, France, this wasn’t just a chance to see the machines - it was an invitation to put them through their paces. From rocky climbs to muddy trails, we pushed the Outlanders to the limit to see just what these ATVs are made of.

For 2025, Can-Am has taken their Outlander 850 and 1000 models to new heights, delivering a complete redesign that promises to redefine the riding experience.

Both are incredibly powerful and enjoyable to operate, with smooth, instant power transfer from throttle to acceleration. I had the opportunity to put the quads through their paces, and they responded to all manners of terrain with ease. Despite the challenging conditions, the comfort provided by the machines was exceptional. The performance and comfort on rough terrain highlighted their versatility.
While the 1000R is perfect for trail sports due to its high power, it might not be the most practical for everyday farm use. The top-spec MAX model, starting at £21,999, is a hefty investment. On the other hand, the 850 model, at around £15,699, offers a more affordable and fuel-efficient option for farms without compromising on power and utility.
If I were in the market for an ATV, the Outlander 850 would certainly be in contention as the ideal blend of power, practicality, and value for money.
