Deadly shooting suspect killed following officer-involved shooting, pursuit

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A suspect in a Sunday evening fatal shooting was killed following a miles-long pursuit.
At around 7:30 Sunday night, Fort Wayne police responded to a shooting at a home in the 1600 block of Hinton Drive on the city’s west side.

They found a man on the scene who had been shot and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
While officers were responding, they located a suspect fleeing in a vehicle, where he then led police on a chase.

The pursuit continued throughout Allen County and eventually crossed into Whitley County.
The suspect’s vehicle eventually crashed near SR 9 and 100 E. FWPD says the suspect was armed and started shooting at police. Officers from several agencies returned fire.
The suspect was later pronounced dead on the scene. He was the only person inside the vehicle.
An Indiana State Police spokesman said the agency is working to learn whether he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if he was killed by an officer.
No officers were injured during the pursuit or the exchange of gunfire.
FWPD Homicide detectives are investigating the initial shooting on Hinton Drive. Currently, we do not know what led to that shooting.
ISP is investigating the officer-involved shooting and pursuit.
