People basked in the sunshine on a glorious Tuesday in Liverpool city centre. Temperatures hit 25C today, April 29, with parts of the UK warmer than holiday hotspots including the Algarve in Portugal and Marbella in Spain.

Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 26C on Merseyside on Wednesday and 24C on Thursday. People made the most of the sunny weather in Liverpool on Tuesday as they took to the Pier Head to sunbathe.

In Liverpool ONE, people were seen enjoying ice creams and drinks in the sun. According to the latest forecast, temperatures are expected to gradually cool this week, dropping slightly to 16C on Friday, with spells of rain forecast across the country.

Looking ahead to next week, the Met Office website said: "Mainly dry with spells of sunshine across the UK at the start of this period. A few showers are likely in places, mainly along coasts in the north and east, with a very small chance of some heavy showers in the far south early on Sunday.

"Into the following week, little change with a large amount of dry weather and sunny spells. Some showers or longer spells of rain may develop at times and if they do they are most likely to affect the north of the UK with little rainfall further south.

"Winds will mostly be light, but could become stronger at times in the far north. Temperatures will generally be near normal or slightly above."
