ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) -- Residents and businesses in Onalaska now have access to some of the fastest internet speeds available in Wisconsin after TDS Telecommunications officially designated the city as a "Fiber-Fast Community" on Thursday.
At a ceremony held at Great River Landing, TDS representatives unveiled the completion of their comprehensive fiber optic network project, which brings unprecedented internet speeds to the community – up to 8 Gigabits per second for residential homes and 10 Gigabits for local businesses.
"The high-speed internet, this is another option, so there's competition in town so it will help with the pricing," said Rick Niemeier, City Administrator for the City of Onalaska. "But overall, it will provide the highest internet speed that everybody needs nowadays."
The infrastructure project was substantial, deploying 120 miles of cutting-edge fiber optic lines throughout Onalaska.
This extensive network now connects nearly 8,500 locations across the community, representing a significant technological upgrade for the area.
