A veteran broadcaster in large market radio (Washington, DC, New York City and Boston), Krantz was hired as morning show host at rock station WKRR, 92.3 FM (Rock 92) in Greensboro. Along with newsman Ralph Shaw and later air personality Chris Demm, Krantz hosted the 6am-10am show until August, 1996. His nearly decade-long run was frequently one of the top-rated morning shows in the Triad. Brad’s acerbic and often cynical wit sometimes clashed with the local traditions and political persuasions of Greensboro. In the late 80’s, Krantz brought smoking in restaurants and grocery stores to the forefront and spearheaded a movement that eventually banned cigarettes in those places. Brad frequently poked fun at topics and people considered sacrosanct in the Piedmont: NASCAR, UNC basketball and local establishment figures. Arriving in North Carolina in the heyday of televangelists like Jim and Tammy Bakker, Krantz introduced himself to Triad radio listeners with a mock promotion to send a “party bus” to Bakker’s Heritage USA theme park in Charlotte. Through the years, his April Fools Day radio pranks would gain notoriety. One year on April first, he announced that the governor of North Carolina was confiscating all Confederate flags, and residents had two weeks to voluntarily turn the flags in or face prosecution. Stunts like this would often tie up the station switchboard for hours and garner newspaper and television coverage.

After Brad parted ways with Dick Broadcasting Company (DBC) in the summer of 1996, he resurfaced at WKEW, AM 1400, Greensboro, as afternoon host. Several years later, he was hired by legacy AM talk radio station WBT in Charlotte to host the afternoon show.

In 2006, Krantz teamed up with former Rock 92 and WKZL air personality Britt Whitmire to helm a morning show at FM talk radio station WZTK in Burlington,

NC. The duo gained popularity with their satirical political send-ups that featured Whitmire’s impersonations of Dan Rather and Rush Limbaugh. After WZTK switched to an all-Spanish format in 2012, Krantz and Whitmire were hired by WBT Charlotte for the afternoon slot.

They ended their run at WBT in 2014 and launched The Brad and Britt Podcast which focused on, as their theme song went, “politics, sports and trending s***.” When Brad became ill in the fall of 2023, the podcast continued around his frequent stays in the hospital. Their last podcast was February 24, 2025.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Brad Krantz was a proud alum of Ohio State University. He is survived by his wife, Jane, daughters Daphne and Stephanie and brothers Mark and Mitch.
