Remo Stars will be crowned champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday (today), when they welcome Southwest rivals Ikorodu City to Ikenne in their last home match of the season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Sky Blue Stars have won their maiden NPFL title with three games to spare after beating Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at home in a match-day 35 game two weeks ago.

Facing the high-flying Ikorodu City on match-day 37 offers a chance for Remo Stars to restart their title celebrations, which were halted by a defeat to El-Kanemi Warriors in midweek.

Their visitors, who are in contention for a CAF Confederation Cup spot, also pose a real threat to their title party, but Daniel Ogunmodede’s side would hope to mark their historic day with a win.

Ikorodu City are currently fourth on the table with 56 points, one behind third-placed Abia Warriors, and a good result in Ikenne will boost their chances of picking a continental ticket in their spectacular NPFL debut.

Remo Stars, on 68 points, will also hope to extend their total points tally.

Aside from the exhilarating game between the two teams, the home team have also announced that music artiste, Shodade Segun, popularly known as Shoday, will be performing at their historic coronation.

“It’s about to be Party time. Shoday will be performing live at the trophy presentation of the new NPFL champions. 3 pm at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. Let’s vibe together,” the club announced.

The club have also announced free entry for fans on Remo Stars jersey among other freebies, while they also issued a traffic advisory for those intending to drive to the stadium.

“Kindly note that cars will not be allowed inside the stadium. The open space after the Muslim College is the designated venue to park your cars,” Remo Stars announced on Saturday.

Chairman of the NPFL board, Gbenga Elegbeleye, who will be joined in Ikenne by other top sports personalities in the country, has hailed Remo Stars for their run this season.

“The Remo Stars people are ready to give us a good show, having done so well. They won more matches away than any other club. They really prepared for this season, and that gave them the victory.”

Remo Stars are the first Southwest team to win the Nigerian top-flight since Julius Berger in 2000.
