
DJI has rolled out version 1.17.0 of its Fly app, introducing support for the highly anticipated Mavic 4 Pro drone and enabling cloud-based waypoint flight storage. However, US drone enthusiasts might find themselves grounded, as the Mavic 4 Pro isn’t officially available stateside, yet.
DJI Fly app version 1.17.0: What’s new
The latest Fly app update brings two significant enhancements:
- Mavic 4 Pro support: Pilots can now connect their Mavic 4 Pro drones using the DJI RC Pro 2 or DJI RC 2 controllers.
- Cloud-based Waypoint flights: Users can store and access their waypoint flight plans in the cloud, ensuring seamless transitions between devices. However, this feature is also temporarily unavailable in the US.
Mavic 4 Pro: A drone worth the hype
The Mavic 4 Pro boasts impressive specs:
- Triple-camera system: Including a 100MP 4/3-inch CMOS Hasselblad wide-angle camera capable of 6K/60fps HDR video, a medium telephoto lens, and a long-range zoom lens.
- Extended flight time: Up to 51 minutes, thanks to a 6654mAh battery.
- Advanced obstacle avoidance: Omnidirectional sensors and LiDAR technology enhance safety, even in low-light conditions.
- Enhanced gimbal: A redesigned “infinity gimbal” allows for 360-degree rotation, providing greater flexibility for creative shots.
- Improved transmission: The O4+ video transmission system offers a range of up to 40km.
US availability: A complicated flight path
Despite its global release, DJI has not officially launched the Mavic 4 Pro in the US, citing ongoing tariff challenges and customs issues. However, some US retailers, like Adorama and B&H Photo, have listed the drone for sale or preorder, indicating the drone will eventually make its way to the US. In the meantime, DJI advises against purchasing the drone from unauthorized channels, as warranties may not be honored outside the country of purchase.
