BAY CITY — Bay City will raise the admission fee for its public pool from $1 to $4 this summer as part of a new partnership with the YMCA aimed at improving programming and facility management.
The change is intended to help cover the costs of enhanced safety, staffing, and youth programming. The YMCA will now manage day-to-day pool operations, bringing added structure and supervision to the facility.
“There are real costs associated with professional pool management,” said Bay City Community Development Corporation Executive Director Jessica Russell. “This fee adjustment helps to maintain a high standard of service.”
To keep family access affordable, the YMCA will host “Family Nights” every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., with admission reduced to $2 per person.
The city, BCCDC, and Matagorda County are also continuing to explore the development of a full aquatic center in Bay City. According to YMCA Program Director Shauna Broz, the long-term goal is a year-round facility that can serve all ages and skill levels.
