The Indian passenger vehicle market witnessed retail sales of 3,02,214 units (excluding Telengana) in May 2025. During the same period, dispatches from the company stood at 3,49,713 units. Once again, SUVs were in high demand with high dispatch volume recorded by OEMs. Here’s a look at the top five SUVs dispatched to showrooms across the country in May 2025.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Maruti Suzuki dispatched 15,566 units of Brezza across the country in May this year. During the same month last year, the Indo-Japanese carmaker recorded a dispatch of 14,186 units which has resulted in a 10% YoY increase. Prices for Brezza start between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 14.14 lakh. The subcompact SUV is available in petrol and CNG powertrain with option both manual and automatic transmissions in the former and a manual gearbox in the latter.

Hyundai Creta

Creta has been the best-seller for Hyundai for almost a decade now. The mid-size SUV has recorded a volume of 14,860 units in May 2025, which was very similar to the volume dispatched in May last year. The Creta is available in both combustion engine and electric vehicle derivatives.Key features in the Creta lineup include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Level 2 ADAS, and six airbags. Prices for Creta start at Rs 11.11 lakh while price for the fully-electric Creta start at Rs 17.99 lakh (both ex-showroom).

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio took the third spot in this list with a total volume of 14,401 in May 2025 as opposed to 13,717 units dispatched during the same month last year. This resulted in a YoY growth of 5%. This volume includes both the older Scorpio Classic and the new Scorpio-N. The ladder-on-frame SUV gets two engine options: a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill, available in manual and automatic transmissions. The Scorpio Classic only gets the diesel mill.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Maruti Suzuki rolled out 13,584 units of Fronx last month which is a 7% YoY increase as compared to May 2024. The Baleno-based crossover has been a tremendous success for the carmaker ever since it was first introduced in 2023. It is also the only car in the Maruti lineup to come with the option of a turbocharged petrol engine. The Fronx is priced between Rs 7.54 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Punch

A few months ago, Tata Punch was the highest-selling passenger car in India. It has now dropped to fifth the best-selling SUV list and ninth overall for the month of May 2025. During the same period, Tata Motors sold 13,133 units of Punch which was a YoY drop of 31 percent from May last year. These numbers include both the ICE and EV versions of Punch.
