Chicago, Illinois (June 10, 2025) – Fireworks are guaranteed when two of the super lightweight division’s most dangerous contenders collide in a high-stakes showdown. Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte (29-2-1, 23 KOs), known for his relentless pressure and knockout power, will go toe-to-toe with Chicago’s own Kenneth “Bossman” Sims Jr. (22-2-1, 8 KOs), a slick technician with everything to prove in front of a hometown crowd.

The two super lightweights will have nowhere to run, and have been foaming at the mouth to take care of business in the ring. The 12-round main event takes place Saturday, August 2, live worldwide on DAZN from Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago. Presented in association with Cancun Boxing, the event also marks Golden Boy’s electrifying return to the Windy City—more than a decade in the making—and promises a night of action-packed matchups as both fighters battle for a shot at championship glory.

“I feel very happy and motivated to be the main event on August 2nd against Sims Jr., an opponent I had previously scheduled to fight, but due to fate, the fight was postponed,” said Oscar Duarte. “I want to take this opportunity to thank Oscar de la Hoya, Eric Gómez, and the entire Golden Boy team for their trust. We are going all out, going for that win to get closer to a world championship.”

“This fight is long overdue and I’m ready to put on a show and leave with the victory,” said Kenneth Sims Jr. “I’m fully healthy now and ready to put on a stellar performance for my fans in Chicago. It’s a dream come true to headline in my hometown, the greatest city in the world.”

“There is nowhere to run and hide for Duarte and Sims in this super lightweight fight that has been brewing over the past year,” said Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “With all the animosity between the two, I can assure that fireworks will explode in this summer firecracker!”

More information on tickets and undercard will be announced in the coming weeks.

The first time Oscar Duarte stepped in a boxing ring was at 11 years old when his friends invited him to spar. Boxing seemed like Duarte’s life calling ever since, as he went on to claim five state championships, five regional championships, four national titles, and a bronze medal as an amateur. Duarte began his professional career in 2013, steadily building a reputation for his power, crisp combinations and ability to apply unwavering pressure on his opponents. Duarte’s name became known when he faced boxing star Ryan Garcia in Houston, TX in December 2023. Although coming up short against the hard-hitting Garcia, Duarte focuses on growth and his willingness to challenge himself against the best fighters in the division to demonstrate his determination to reach the highest levels of boxing. Under the tutelage of trainer Robert Garcia, Duarte made an impressive comeback, being the first fighter to ever stop former world champion Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz in April 2024. We then saw him against former stablemate Batyr Akhmedov in an all-action super lightweight battle in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he secured a unanimous decision victory. Most recently, Duarte returned to the ring to take on the hard-hitting Miguel Madueño, in an all-Mexican, crowd-pleasing brawl at the Honda Center in February 2025.

In that bout, Duarte became the first fighter to stop Madueño, securing a seventh-round knockout and taking the WBA Continental Americas super lightweight title back to Parral, Chihuahua. Duarte returns to the ring in Chicago to face hometown contender Kenneth Sims Jr. (22-2-1, 8 KOs). Originally scheduled for November 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the bout was postponed due to Sims Jr.’s knee injury during training camp. Now, as the WBA’s No. 4 and No. 5 contenders, they’re set to deliver a must-watch clash of boxing finesse versus persistent pressure — a true showdown between Chihuahua and Chicago. As Duarte continues to rise through the super lightweight rankings, he has his sights set on world title opportunities. His hunger for success, combined with his natural, relentless firepower, makes him one of the sport’s most exciting contenders in the super lightweight division.

An amateur standout, former Team USA member and ranked in the top ten by the WBA and IBF, Kenneth Sims Jr. (22-2-1, 8 KOs) is seeking to make a statement for the super lightweight division. Enticed by winning, he built an extensive amateur career that saw him become a nine-time national champion and make an appearance in the 2012 Olympic Trials where he lost a one-point decision to eventual Olympian and future world champion Jose Ramirez. He later continued to win the 2013 U.S. National Championships to earn a spot on the USA Boxing National Team. Sims Jr. was soon traveling the world with his teammates, visiting locations such as Ukraine, Ireland, Chile and Puerto Rico, culminating with an appearance in the 2013 World Championships in Kazakhstan.

Sims Jr. decided to go professional in March 2014 and quickly amassed a winning streak. With only two losses and a draw as blemishes on his record, he rebuilt himself to be one of the toughest super lightweights in the division. His breakout performance was an upset win against previously undefeated prospect Elvis Rodriguez on May 22, 2021. Since then, he has added six more victories to his resume, launching him to the top of the rankings. The ‘Bossman’ made his mark once again on the Duarte vs. Madueño undercard at the Honda Center on Feb. 15, 2025, claiming a unanimous decision victory in an action-packed, crowd-pleasing fight that further cemented his place in the boxing world.

Now ranked No. 4 by the WBA, Kenneth Sims Jr. is set to face Chihuahua’s Oscar Duarte in a highly anticipated bout that fans have been waiting for. The two were originally scheduled to fight in November 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but Sims Jr. was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury sustained during training camp. After exchanging intense words on social media and during a shared presser earlier in February, fight fans can expect fireworks as a slick boxer goes head-to-head with a relentless pressure fighter — a true war between Chicago and Chihuahua.

Duarte vs. Sims Jr. is a 12-round fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Cancun Boxing. The event will be available worldwide to all subscribers on DAZN, both live and on demand.

Browns play cruel joke on Shedeur Sanders before preseason opener

The Cleveland Browns aren't setting fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders up for success before he makes his debut against the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. Amid hamstring injuries to Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, the Browns are giving the start to Sanders, hoping to keep QB1 Joe Flacco healthy before the regular season. However, the Browns aren't making Sanders' life easy before Friday's game. Per Zack Jackson of The Athletic, Sanders has yet to receive reps with the first-team offense in practice and has mostly worked with the third team in training camp. "Through 10 days of camp, Sanders is the only one of the four Browns quarterbacks not to take snaps with the No. 1 offense," Jackson wrote. "He piloted the No. 2 offense in one drill last week against the Browns’ No. 1 defense, but the majority of his snaps in camp have come with and against the No. 3 units... "Wednesday’s joint practice should provide some clarity on the Browns’ exact thinking and availability for Friday. Sanders likely won’t take No. 1 reps in the joint session, but he’ll have that practice and a Thursday walk-through to prepare further — and potentially get the chance to play the full game in the preseason opener." Per Fred Greetham of 247 Sports, Sanders did not receive reps with the first-team offense during the joint practice on Wednesday, but did take part in four plays during an 11-on-11 period against the Panthers following Flacco's reps. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski thinks Sanders has received enough reps from the second and third team units to be ready for Friday night, arguing that the only thing different about the players on the first team is the "batteries" they're built with. "That's part of, I think it's just preseason ball, where you may have some ones going against twos," Stefanski said. "Two's going against one's. You could have, there's different guys in there at different times, but I think both sides, particularly in that first game, it's all about playing fast. "So you typically don't see a ton of looks that are unusual per se. So if you stick to your rules and you stick to what you've been taught over the last few weeks, you should be able to operate and function well." Sanders is going into his first NFL game flying blind after the Browns played a cruel joke on him this week. Frankly, there is a considerable difference in throwing to the equipment staff and players signed as undrafted free agents versus the speed that a first-team offense in the league has. The Browns aren't giving Sanders a fair fight by allowing him to practice a few reps with the first team. It's now up to Sanders to quickly respond to the differences if he wants a chance to move up the depth chart.

Gap between star WR Terry McLaurin, Commanders revealed

As of Thursday morning, the Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin remained in a contract stalemate after the 29-year-old wide receiver in the final year of his current deal requested a trade. During Thursday's edition of the ESPN "Get Up" program, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler noted that the Commanders and McLaurin are locked in "a classic standoff" as McLaurin allegedly looks to secure "parts" of the five-year, $150M deal that the Pittsburgh Steelers gave DK Metcalf this past March. "They have been far apart," Fowler said about the negotiations between the Commanders and McLaurin, as shared by Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report. "...[McLaurin] has wanted metrics of the DK Metcalf contract, which is $32M. I'm told the Washington Commanders have only been slightly above where he was before, which is $23M. So take that gap, that's $7M to 8M that they have to bridge." Fowler added that Washington "has got some calls about McLaurin" this summer because "there's some interest league-wide" in learning whether or not the wideout could become available. For what it's worth, numerous reporters have said since McLaurin went public with his trade request that he likely won't go anywhere before Washington opens the season with a home game against the New York Giants on Sept. 7. ESPN's John Keim mentioned that Washington's joint practice with the New England Patriots on Wednesday showed that the Commanders "need McLaurin back on the field" as soon as possible. That's understandable, as McLaurin recorded team highs of 117 targets, 82 receptions and 1,096 receiving yards to help quarterback Jayden Daniels become the Offensive Rookie of the Year for the 2024 season. Additionally, McLaurin finished the 2024 campaign ranked second in the entire NFL with 13 touchdown catches. As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook continued to list a Washington team coming off a trip to this year's NFC Championship Game sixth among the betting favorites at +1800 odds to win Super Bowl LX. Perhaps Wednesday's joint practice will spark more positive conversations between McLaurin's camp and the Commanders that will result in the playmaker rejoining summer practices as soon as early next week.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani reaches yet another incredible milestone

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani entered Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals on the precipice of another milestone. Ohtani had recorded 999 hits in his career, an impressive number considering he continued to hit while rehabbing after a pair of elbow surgeries and the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He notched his 1,000th career hit in the third inning, belting a two-run homer off Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore. While that home run temporarily gave his team a 2-1 lead, the Dodgers' bullpen failed to hold on in the 5-3 loss. Ohtani has put together an impressive season as he slowly works himself back as a starting pitcher. He has posted a .276/.381/.606 batting line in 521 plate appearances, hitting 39 homers and 15 doubles while stealing 16 bases. Ohtani also has a 2.37 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 19 innings, striking out 25 batters with just five walks. His 1,000th hit is another milestone in a career that is on track to end in Cooperstown. The 2018 American League Rookie of the Year, Ohtani is a five-time All-Star and three-time MVP, joining Hall of Fame outfielder Frank Robinson as the only players to win the MVP award in both leagues. He is one home run shy of his fourth season with 40 or more homers and is the only player in major league history to hit 50+ homers and steal 50+ bases in the same season. Ohtani's exploits on the mound have been equally impressive. He has reached the double-digit mark in wins twice and has struck out more than 150 batters in a season three times. Ohtani finished fourth in the 2022 AL Cy Young race after posting a 15-9 record with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.012 WHIP over 166 innings, striking out 219 batters with 44 walks. It is sure to be one of the many milestones Ohtani reaches as his career continues.

Kevin Love reportedly has preferred buyout destination

Kevin Love reportedly has preferred buyout destination

Kevin Love is eyeing a return to his roots. The five-time NBA All-Star big man Love has a preferred destination on the buyout market, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported on Tuesday. Love would like to end up in Los Angeles. Now 36 years old, Love spent the last two-and-a-half seasons with the Miami Heat. He averaged just 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds over 10.9 minutes per game in 2024-25 but still managed to shoot 35.8 percent from three on the year. Earlier this summer however, the Heat traded Love to the Utah Jazz as part of a three-team blockbuster deal. Now Love, a 17-year NBA veteran, is pursuing a contract buyout from the rebuilding Jazz. Though he is a native of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Love played his college ball in Los Angeles at UCLA. He also has ties to both L.A. teams — he won an NBA championship with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and was also coached on that team by Tyronn Lue, who is now head coach of the L.A. Clippers. Both the Lakers and Clippers are currently sitting at 14 guaranteed contracts each. While they still have spots for two-way and Exhibit 10 players, that means the Lakers and Clippers are both down to their final open roster spot. The ex-rebounding leader Love still has some value, though probably more so as a jokester than as a contributing rotation piece. While Love clearly wants a homecoming to Los Angeles, he may have some convincing to do for either the Lakers or the Clippers to give him that final open roster spot.
