On July 5, the Tesla founder and former adviser to President Donald Trump announced on his X account that he's forming the America Party. Just the day before, Elon posted a poll suggesting that "Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?"

His poll surprisingly received over 1.2 million votes, with over 65% voting "yes."

Elon shared another post officially announcing the launch of the new US political party. "By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!" he wrote. "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom."

He followed up by resharing a meme of a two-headed snake and the caption "End the Uniparty." He replied, "Yes."

Elon's been teasing (or threatening) to form a third party for a while. On June 5, he posted a poll asking, "Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?"

Then, on June 30, Elon made an internet promise that if Congress passed Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill," which he's been a vocal critic of, he would form the "America Party."

Well, it looks like good ol' Elon is serious about this next move, and the internet is not holding back with many people taking to social media to criticize the SpaceX founder for even floating the idea.

One person wrote, "The 'america party'. A party created and funded by south african born billionaire. The onion couldn't make a better headline."

"He’s just throwing another tantrum as usual when he doesn’t get his way. He 'helped' Trump cuz he wanted Trump to not terminate all those EV incentives cuz he feels it will hurt his EV sales but Trump did it anyway. Now he wants to create a new political party cuz he did all that work and got nothing out of it but a big fat no🙄," another person wrote.

Someone said, "Another Billionaire is launching a new political party, to 'represent the common people' LOL Ahhh you couldn’t make this stuff up."

There were some folks who believed, "The two leading parties have become rotten," and "this country needs a new party."

This user wrote, "OMG . can US politics get more of a joke at the suffering of regular citizens 😱😱"

"You're telling me he gets mad that there's nothing in the bill that provides support for any of his fancy electric cars, so he gets mad and declares he's making his own party. The irony!" this social media user pointed out.

Some people were saying, "USA has become one big reality show."

This person joked, "Finally!! A party run by a candidate that can relate to every day middle class Americans. Being a South African billionaire Musk is well versed in the every day struggles of the American people."

And finally, this person wrote, "The America Party is the most generic name for an American political party imaginable."
