The foul-mouthed Black Sabbath final gig moment I can't stop thinking about

The backstage encounter at Villa Park on Saturday, July 5 was dwarfed only by Yungblud's moment in the spotlight

I remember seeing Sharon and Kelly Osbourne interviewing Yungblud once on a podcast.

They nattered about all the things that the 27-year-old singer, real name Dominic Harrison, has in common with the 76-year-old Prince of Darkness.

They both watch war movies in their downtime, they both like to eat pasta for their lunch. In the past, both singers have spoken openly, separately, about how they live with ADHD.

But as they were filmed backstage at Villa Park, declaring their love for one another while dropping about 500 F-bombs per second, the similarities were striking, the moment so touching it's burned into my brain as a highlight of a whole weekend filled with highlights.

"I've made you something," Dom declared to Ozzy during soundchecks, bursting with pride to present him with a box, inlaid with sterling silver and containing a gold and diamond cross.

"Obviously you gave me a cross and I wanted to return the favour."

Ozzy gave Dom a gold cross back in 2022 during the filming of the music video to his song The Funeral, with both Sharon and Ozzy featuring in the taping.

"I hope this brings you luck," was the wish that went with it, and since then he's nailed his third consecutive number one album.

"Oh my good god. That is f****** unbelievable. Sharon, have you seen this?" Ozzy said as he opened the box to see the pre-Villa Park present from Dom.

"Obviously I've got mine on. I never took mine off that you gave me so I wanted to return the favour," Dom said. "Yes, Oz!"

"That's really good... Thank you," Ozzy said as he kissed the performer.

It was a day before Yungblud's surprise appearance at the Back To The Beginning show, when his rendition of Changes would blow fans away with the strength of his voice and his rousing stage presence.

Like Ozzy, he knows how to command a crowd.

While the 'supergroups' of the day featured artists with far more years and achievements under their belts than Yungblud, his performance would prove that he deserved to be on that platform as much as any musician whose experience well pre-dates Dom's birth.

I got texts from pals likening his moment to that of Freddie Mercury at Live Aid, though only time will tell whether it'll be remembered in history like Freddie was.

For all of the excitement of the moment, and with the eyes of the world on Ozzy for his final farewell set, it was his reaction to seeing Dom that showed where his heart lay in what must have been an intense few days.

"You've got a number one album haven't you?!" Ozzy asked Dom as the pair touched their necklaces together like two best pals with friendship bracelets.

"Good for you. Conquer America next. You've got to conquer America. Just keep going, don't give in."

After a round of heartfelt 'I f****** love yous' and 'god bless yous', Ozzy said: "If there's anything we can ever do for you..."

"Do you know what," Dom stops him to say. "The f****** music was enough, thank you so much, honestly.

"You gave me an outlet. Everyone thought I was too f****** mad but I said 'nah, I'm like Ozzy'."

Had Yungblud been announced as a performer on the huge line-up ahead of the show, no doubt skeptics would have questioned how worthy he was to be named among some of the greatest heavy metal stars of all time.

But of all of the acts who went on to carry forward the Black Sabbath legacy, how many of them can say that they're introducing the rebellious, powerful spirit of the genre to teenagers like Dom can?

How many of them are hitting the top of the charts, outwardly showing the world how ADHD and dyslexia are no barriers to achieving your dreams and ambitions? That's what Ozzy did too.

How many of them are putting kinship and kindness at the forefront of their social media posts when talking about being part of the Back To The Beginning show?

How many of them are advocating for LGBTQ+ youth and the beauty of being authentically yourself, F-bombs and all?

Yungblud got an army of new fans after this weekend, and I'm f****** counting myself among them!
