Shellharbour City Council in New South Wales has gone live with a new technology platform from IT solutions provider Thomas Duryea Logicalis specifically designed for the Shellhabour Civic Centre.

TDL was selected as the Council’s technology partner to design, build and deploy the technology platform that includes an on-premise datacentre, backbone network and a wireless network.

The Civic Centre opened to the public in January and comprises a city library, museum, Council chambers and administration centre, a Civic auditorium, meeting rooms and a café.

Marcos Baez, IT manager, Shellharbour City Council, said: “The Shellharbour Civic Centre is a landmark project, purpose-built to grow with the community, and to boost future technology enablement across all services well into the future.”

“The project was a major undertaking, running two sites during the migration within a tight timeframe and budget. The Council trusted TDL to develop the project strategy, and deploy the right technology. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure the migration and deployment went according to plan. We are very proud to have been part of Shellharbour’s landmark project,” said Michael Chanter, chief executive, TDL.

The data centre is a hyper-converged solution that replaced the Council’s ageing infrastructure to allow Shellharbour to move to a hybrid cloud in the future while maintaining a secure on-premise environment. The newly designed data centre is housed on a dedicated floor in the Civic Centre and is designed to deliver a flexible, easy-to-manage environment supported by a small in-house IT team.

The fibre backbone network provides high availability, reliability, redundancy, and secure access to all key locations within the facility including the auditorium and library. A key design aspect is that all networking equipment and switches run off the backbone.

The wireless network provides 125 secure corporate access points for council staff, allowing them to working anywhere in the building. It also offers access to secure, wireless networks for visitors and guests to the new building, as well as free wireless access to the public in the immediate surrounds of the civc centre.
